To give you my full name, it’s Parson Jack Russell Terrier. I was named after my breed creator, a Devonshire man of the cloth. But if you think that makes me meek and mild, ask your postman for some Jack Russell anecdotes! I’m a hunting dog through and through and will chase anything.
What do I look like?
What I lack in stature I make up for in spirit. I’m a typical terrier with a moderately sized head and slender but chunky body. I’ve got small triangular ears. My eyes are alert and playful, which with the right person I certainly am. I just don’t like people who deliver – unless its pizza!
What do I need from you?
Jack Russell Terriers love companionship so we’re not good left on our own all day. We’re pretty hardy creatures though so we’re very content to be playfully thrown around and taken on exciting walks. We need a good brushing though – our coat is dense and close and is liable to shedding. Personally, I love having my tummy tickled, but I am not sure if that is a well-defined breed trait?
What I will give in return
I can pack a mean punch so I’ll make a great security guard. Trust me, I’ll terrorise anyone who tries to infiltrate our property with those various shaped packages! But when it’s just us, I’ll be the most loyal friend you could wish for.
How big is our litter?
4 to 8 pups to a litter is about typical for a Jack Russell Terrier.
How big will I get?
I have a few different varieties but typically I’ll come in at around one foot tall (30cm). I’m far from heavy and usually make it to about 14lb (6.5kg).
A real eclectic mix: The Prince of Wales, Paul McCartney, Mariah Carey, Bette Midler and Serena Williams, to name just five!
